Earthquakes can cause major damage to your home and personal property.  Since most homeowner's policies don't cover earthquakes, one way of protecting against this risk is by adding earthquake insurance coverage to your homeowner's policy.

In an article published on 02/21/2008 by KSL.com, it was said that only 15% of homeowners in Utah, that purchase home insurance, have earthquake insurance.  That is a scary number, considering that the majority of the Salt Lake Valley is in a "severe" or "violent shaking zone." (this is illustrated in the "Wasatch Front - Ground Shaking Map.")

There are many things to consider when purchasing earthquake insurance coverage.  Refer to the below resources when considering a policy.

Earthquake's are a serious matter.  Unfortunately, most Utah residents don't have an insurance policy to protect them against ground shaking losses.
